The City of Destin, on the Florida panhandle, is home to the
most beautiful white silky sand beaches and crystal clear
waters along the Gulf of Mexico. A thriving resort community,
Destin still manages to maintain a small town family
atmosphere and charm.
Destin has a wonderful historical heritage dating back to its
early American Indian inhabitants. In the 1500s, Spanish
explorers surveyed and mapped Florida, but Destin traces its
immediate history to a fisherman named Captain Leonard Destin.
The captain moved to the area from New London, Connecticut,
around 1845 and pioneered the local fishing industry. Destin
is now known as the "world's luckiest fishing
village" and is home to Florida's largest fishing fleet.
Destin has also gained a reputation for its fine restaurants,
unique shops, and world class resorts. It is home to a very
popular up scale outlet shopping center, a large water park,
and numerous golf courses.
